Buggy, slow, only gives troubles
by Ramon Roca-Sastre,
Product Rating: 1/5
- Hi, we purchased McAfee because Trendmicro didnt supported ISA Server 2004 (webprotect). This product, with our 3 legs ISA server, has given only headaches to us:
-it was impossible to publish correctly a website in our DMZ. SecurityShield was inspecting http traffic, and gave lots of problems (xml files not published correctly, problems with post forms, etc..) Finnaly we had to publish the web site as a 80 TCP port publication, not as a real web site.
-now our Forewall service hangs from time to time. Its because Security shield.
-The interface of the app. isn't clear at all
Sincerely, if I could decide again I'd choose another product, even if it was recommended by the devil itself, Cannot be worse.

full of bugs and S L O W

- I installed this last week and have had nothing but complaints from users. Mcafee support failed to tell us that patch 3 was required - I have the same issues since installing that too. I still have response-delay issues others have reported since installing on ISA 2000.
I am getting a refund from my reseller. This product is simply awful. There's no place in the console to create exceptions (or if there is, I haven't been able to find it)
I expect any product - especially one which has been RTM for more than a year to have the bugs ironed out.

Slow & Buggy
by Ben Blackmore,
Product Rating: 2/5
- Have been running this product since August 2005, and initially had nothing but problems, we installed patch 1 & 2, but still found most web sites very slow, and some didn't load at all. We contacted McAfee support, and it took 8 weeks for them to solve the issue and give us patch 3. We then found that some streaming media didn't work, i.e. Symantec LiveUpdate for our client AV, IBM download manager, and Adobe Acrobat updater. After contacting McAfee support, and waiting another 4 weeks, we were told we had to add entries to the McAfee registry to enable these services. However when you do this, you have to reboot the entire machine, not just stop/start the service, which is very annoying. I still find we have to disable the web filter service for some sites to work correctly, which leaves us vulnerable until we re-enable it again.
All in all, this product will do basic http virus scnanning, if you install all the patches, but for more advanced features, such as streaming data, it's just not up to the job.

by Ake Gustafsson,
- We are testing this product on ISA Server 2000, there is however a problem with web radio. Security Shield seems to block this.

McAfee Security Shield causes ISA 2004 to crash
by JJohnston,
Product Rating: 1/5
- We have been running McAfee Security Shield (MSS) for ISA 2004 for a month. We have had problems with MSS causing the fwsrv service to stop on almost a daily basis. The trace shows the stop caused by mc2k4proxy.dll, a McAfee plugin. I uninstalled MSS a week ago, and ISA 2004 has been running fine. I want my money back.

Great Product

- We were using Symantec until we decided to upgrade to ISA 2004 and found Symantec don't support it.
Not only does McAfee support ISA 2004 but I've found it a much better product.
The Java console does suck a bit, but then parts of Symantec's Java console never worked at all for me, so McAfee is still an improvement

- This is a good product that does exactly what you'd expect of McAfee.
However, it is vital that you get the latest patch from them - this is the only way to allow inbound scanning of HTTPS "Bridged" traffic.
There is no way of downloading the patch from their website, which is a bit frustrating. But it does work!

- McAfee SecurityShield works fine out of the box. It is also possible to use this product in an ISA Server array. I don't like java management consoles but this seems to be the way we go. I have alos tested the most of the other products on this page but the McAfee SecurityShield worked best for me.

- Im realy not an Mcaffee fan, but searching for an ISA 2004 antivirus plugin, there are only a few products available. (i have only found gfi download security and symantec and this one, all others where in beta) This one is realy great. You can filter inbound or outbound or both traffic. You can filter smtp/http/ftp or only specific one. Interface is completly java and is very nice. Easy to configure and very complete!
